Core Problem
There is a need for a centralised tool to assess FLN competencies, track results, and measure student performance to help attain the NIPUN status as outlined in the NIPUN Bharat Mission.
How it works
The app generates standardised, state government-approved questions as per the NIPUN guidelines, and offers reading comprehension and math assessments for FLN competencies. It has been built in collaboration with Google Read Along and leverages ODK (Open Data Kit) to measure oral reading fluency and numeracy skills, and delivers real-time feedback directly on screen to evaluate a student’s FLN skills within 5-10 minutes.
The Impact
Giving teachers a ready, standardised question bank, the NL App makes it much simpler to obtain competency-wise visibility into each student’s NIPUN-specific progress. It is being used as a thermometer by all system actors including teachers, academic mentors, and examiners to keep a pulse on the achievement of FLN competencies across the state. The app also supports geofencing and allows student-level tracking.

How it works
Using the app, the teachers can communicate with the student’s parents regarding key components in the child’s learning trajectory, including but not limited to their learning, performance, assignments and test dates. The tool can even send automatic SMS alerts, customised tips and suggested actions when students need intervention.

eSamwad is a transformative tool that increases transparency for parents regarding their child’s progress in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The regular, customised updates from the app get parents more involved in their child’s learning and development, nudging them to look after their child’s performance as and when needed.

It provided configurable tools for simple data collection, enabling easy adjustments to their visit operations. The app comes with checklists, guidelines, and resources to assist users in conducting productive visits and administrative checks.

The app eliminates the need for school visitors to keep physical records of school profiles and their observations, creating a simple way to access and re-visit relevant data. It simplifies the identification of schools in need of support and enables evidence-based decision-making for state administration through its user-centric dashboards.
